PREPARE FOR WORST-CASE SCENARIO, STATE WORKERS TELL PUBLIC
Submitted by courage_phil on Fri, 03/26/2010 - 21:57.
With less than two months before the
2010 elections, government employees urged heightened vigilance from the public.
They gathered today along the Elliptical Road in Quezon City to reiterate their
call for a clean and credible elections.
During their assembly, they carried an
oversized gloves to portray their vow to knock-out any attempt from the Arroyo
administration to manipulate the poll results and to pepertrate violence for
her own self-interests. A trophy belt that symbolizes honest elections was also
brought by the protesters to show that the people will triumph over Arroyo’s
evil plans thriugh their collective efforts.
The militant employees said that the
recent events such as the appointment of Gen. Delfin Bangit as AFP Chief of Staff,
the Supreme Court decision on the Chief Justice appointment , inconsistencies
in the ballot printing process, padded voters’ list, questionable partylists
and the COMELEC’s lack of a definite response to the people’s concerns are
concrete reasons for the public to be alarmed. “We are not doom-sayers but we
just want everyone to brace themselves for the worst-case scenario. The
indications for a failure of elections are gradually unfolding before us. Should
Mrs. Arroyo and her collaborators attempt to hijack the next elections, the
people must be ready to take the necessary actions even if it would mean civil
disobedience,” said COURAGE National President Ferdinand Gaite.
In the afternoon, the government
workers trooped to the Supreme Court to denounce the High Court’s resolution
allowing Mrs. Arroyo to appoint the next Chief Justice. They challenged the
honorable justices to reconsider their decision in order to prove that the SC
is truly an independent body and is free from Malacañang dictates. It is their
duty to uphold the Constitution and not the deceitful interests of the one who
appointed them, the militants asserted.
They ended their protest with a pledge
to junk the candidates for the upcoming polls who are in connivance with Mrs.
Arroyo in executing her grand plan to perpetuate herself in power. The
employees also expressed their all out support for the Anakpawis Partylist and
the senatorial bids of Rep. Liza Maza and Rep. Satur Ocampo saying that these
are the real government employees’ champ. “They are among the progressive
individuals and groups who never left us in our fight for a living wage, job
security and democratic rights,” Gaite ended. #
