IT’S ARROYO WHO’S AFRAID OF ANOTHER EDSA – GOV’T. WORKERS

“Only an
illegitimate, corrupt and bereft of moral authority to lead would be afraid of
another people power”.
This was the
statement of COURAGE, the national center of government workers, on President
Arroyo’s statement that the world would condemn another EDSA.
Ferdinand
Gaite, COURAGE National President said Arroyo, who benefitted from EDSA 2,
should be ashamed of herself for making such an irresponsible statement.
“The upheaval
that is EDSA was a demonstration of the people’s collective will and action to overthrow
an oppressive and corrupt presidency. Accused of illegitimacy and corruption,
Arroyo is trying to undermine this power of the people to effect change. She’s
not only ungrateful but despicable as well”.
Gaite added
that not only did Arroyo tried to downplay this historic event by telling
people not to relive EDSA and the last minute activities in its commemoration but
her administration as well is hell bent on not letting another EDSA happen.
The leader
cited the use of calibrated preemptive response to quell protests (which the
Supreme Court earlier junked), the declaration of PP 1017, the executive
privilege that prevents her officials to spill the beans on alleged corruption,
the militarization of the bureaucracy
and political killings and represeeion as telltale signs of a desperate and
despotic administration.
“But Arroyo is
badly mistaken if she believes that the people would simply forget EDSA and all
that it stood for. In time, people would once again call for change and like a
volcano that has kept its activity in silence for a long time, the people would
once again unite and act to oust Arroyo. If not now, then in the coming 2010
elections”.
