GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES WARN VILLAR ON ALLIANCE WITH THE GARCIAS

Government employees and fund owners of the Government Service Insurance
System (GSIS) today cautioned Presidential Candidate Manuel “Manny” Villar on
the reported alliance of the Nacionalista Party with the One Cebu party. They
said Villar should reconsider the alliance if it would be in exchange for the
retention of GSIS President and General Manager Winston Garcia or risk courting
the ire of the 1.5 million government employees.  

 

“It is alarming that the local officials of Cebu themselves admitted it
is Winston Garcia no less who brokered the talks and the alliance with Villar
because he was concerned about his position at the GSIS. Villar should note
that the employees and even the retirees and pensioners have been calling for
the ouster of Winston Garcia since 2004 for plunder, fund mismanagement and
abuse of authority”, Ferdinand Gaite, COURAGE National President said in a
statement.

 

Gaite added that it is foolhardy for Villar to take Garcia’s bait, hook,
line and sinker just to have a slice of the now divided Cebu votes and instead
risk losing the votes of the state workers.  

 

“The government employees will definitely junk candidates who will
perpetuate the policies and programs they deemed as anti-employees and
anti-people”, Gaite concluded.  #
